Liljevalchs Sofa
The sofa was first shown at an exhibition at the Liljevalchs Art Gallery and Museum organized by the Swedish Handcraft Society in 1934. With its challenging, anti-Bauhaus curves, Frank may have wanted to signal his presence in Stockholm, or it may have been a fiery protest against what he called “the usual handicraft boredom”. The sofa, which upset certain arbiters of taste, was called “Estrid Ericson’s English cretonne sofa”.
Wooden frame. Core of hand plaited coil springs on a no-sag spring base, stuffed with foam rubber/polyester and synthetic batting. Back and side cushions made of synthetic fiber/feathers or of down/feathers. Armrest covers included.
Liljevalchs Sofa is available to order in any Josef Frank pattern or solid color. Please contact the store for more information 212.334.2556.
